This Eco-Fabrics Footprint Calculator is a quick and easy tool to measure the environmental impact of your workwear fabrics. Simply select your garment sets or fabric meters and your sustainable fabric type to receive an instant calculation of your workwear fabrics’ eco-footprint as compared to a more traditional fabric from our portfolio. It’s the perfect companion for tracking progress towards your company’s sustainability goals, or for envisioning how making an eco-friendly swap could reduce your environmental impact.
The biggest sustainable impact is at the fabric level
With the fabric being the main element of a garment, the feasibility of a better environmental impact lies in the fabric choices you make, and how much sustainable content, such as sustainable fibres, they contain. To improve your environmental impact even more, you can also look at more environmental friendly garment manufacturing, local production of your safety garment, more sustainable garment packaging etc.
As industries across the globe search for ways to improve their ecological footprint, you may be wondering what sustainable fabric options are available. When it comes to workwear, sustainable innovations have become commonplace. In the flame-resistant market, sustainable FR fabrics are being introduced - which means sustainable fabrics are now available to any industry.
But when the fabric is the most essential factor towards achieving a better ecological footprint with your workwear, how does that translate to clear data demonstrating the better impact of your footprint?
How to seamlessly calculate your environmental footprint
Many companies are looking for ways to calculate the environmental footprint of their workwear fabrics, but up until now, that hasn’t been a walk in the park. We’ve listened to the need for easily calculating the eco-footprint and developed the Eco-Fabrics Footprint Calculator. With this calculator, you can instantly calculate your footprint when choosing more sustainable options in inherent FR fabrics, FR-treated fabrics or workwear fabrics.
Just select the number of garments or fabric meters, and the type of sustainable fabrics you aim to use. The calculator will then provide you with exact figures on sustainable content usage, as well as water and CO2 reductions, based on your selection. It’s as simple as that!
Establishment of the data
The calculation model of the Eco-Fabrics Footprint Calculator is based on EPD® data for each sustainable fabric that’s available in the calculator. An EPD® (Environmental Product Declaration document) – also referred to as a Type III Declaration – is an independently verified and registered document according to ISO 14025 which provides transparent and comparable information about the environmental performance of a product. For example, it includes the impacts associated with the production, such as raw material acquisition, energy use and efficiency, the content of materials and chemical substances, emissions to air, soil, and water, and waste generation.
When using the Eco-Fabrics Footprint Calculator, you will get a calculation of your workwear fabrics’ eco-footprint which is a saving expressed between using an Ecogreen fabric compared to a more traditional fabric from our portfolio.
It’s as simple as that?
Now you may ask: if it’s that easy, how come it wasn’t available before? The Eco-Fabrics Footprint Calculator might sound like a simple solution, but it took us months to develop. It was essential to take the time to speak with Health & Safety and Sustainability managers and partners from the value chain. Once we found out their needs, we combined them with the knowledge of product management, sales, and a team of UX designers and developers. Once we brought all this together, we were able to develop this straightforward calculator, which we will continue to optimize.
